Rapper/producer Martin $ky hit the Chicago scene hard this year so far dropping new verses and beats constantly. He returns with yet another offering. Although an EP, there are 11 new cuts to enjoy. Definitely someone to keep an eye on in the coming months, from what i've heard, he just keeps improving. Hit the jump for the details and download.
It's official, "Castro" drops August 8th. The whole project is executive produced by No I.D. I expect this to be a huge project and just what Mikkey needs to get these new Chicago rap kids on some real hip-hop.
F.D.R. is a burgeoning three-piece led by Houston’s own Hollywood Floss. Joining him are D-Risha and Rob Jay–get it? F.D.R. = Floss + D + Rob–who share the slick, horns-laden Sweet Valley High production on “Toe 2 Toe”. Each MC shines here, especially in the realm of wordplay. You’ll hear sharp references to Rajon Rondo, parkour(!), Bruce Banner, and much more. Beyond that, it’s a killer lil’ joint and one hell of a preview of the trio’s upcoming release, The Inauguration, which is due out later this year.02 Toe 2 Toe (Produced by Sweet Valley High) by hwfloss

We made this over the past two years in a tiny ass bedroom studio in Flatbush, no labels no overlords telling us what sound to create. ANARCHY rules. NONE OF THIS WAS MADE FOR THE LOVE OF $$$ just for the love of LOVE itself. So shut the fuck up and take these D.R.U.G.S.

There is nothing back and forth about this I assure you. The still frame pretty much sums it up, haha. Saw this about a week ago, had to share it. Our local phenom Chief Keef may be the hottest thing in the streets right now, but dude lacks some communication skills. Either that or he is just crazy high all the time!

Some new trap from a couple local but unfamiliar names. The video is shot is true a hood fashion featuring dudes with their shirts off, waving money, random dudes in the video for no reason, and even some extremely low budget effects.
Chicago streetwear brand continues showcasing some dope local artists by teaming up with Henny B for the final leak from the forthcoming "Loud Life II".
Following her album preview event last week at Beauty Bar in Chicago, Henny B. comes through with “Get It In” featuring Astonish – the final single from her upcoming mixtape Loud Life II. The full album will be released as a free download on the City of Win website on August 1.
With “Get It In,” Henny B. shows how she is poised to take place as the preeminent female rap voice in Chicago. She lays her chill vocal flow over a dark club-banging beat by Born Ready Productions, delivering a swagger anthem that fully characterizes Henny’s “Loud Life” lifestyle.
For the full Loud Life II album, Henny teamed up with a slew of Chi-Town producers and artist. In addition to Astonish, local guest appearances include GLC, Calliko, Jay Vega, Myles J, ItsQVC, Pack, ShowYouSuck, Zipcode Slashes, Veeno, Big EZ, and TA'i KA$H, with artist Sky being the only non-Chicago artist. Production credits include Jay Vega, SireUno, Mr. Williams, DJ O-Zone, Hannibal King, and Woo Swoope.

I think Mic is cheating a little with these #MondaysAreTerrible series. Similar to his offerings in the past week. Mic dropped a video for "Rodney King" last week, and follows up this week with the Mp3. It's all good, I'm sure everyone wanted the download for this one anyway!
Isaiah and Machina Muerte always come with some unique beat selections and a non-typical style. I can't put this project in a one particular genre, but I can tell you that I dig it and make sure to check out "Talkin' Bout" featuring Chicago's Show You Suck. Hit the jump for details and download.
Their reputations proceed them. Isaiah Toothtaker: head rapper of the Machina Muerte crew, convicted multiple felon who's earned his telling surname many times over, and tattoo baron of Tucson, Arizona—arguably America's last standing Wild West. And Prison Garde: once known as Sixtoo, who turned the hip-hop underground on its head with Sebutones, plus solo records for Anticon and Ninja Tune, before leaving his old moniker behind for a life lived in the shadows of Halifax, Nova Scotia—a city that is, in fact, no longer a city. These two outlaw types otherwise separated by 3400 miles of dry land have come together to create Sea Punk Funk, your new favorite mixtape and a bizarrely summery collision of G-funk notions, electro boogie dreams, chillwave echoes and semi-melodic raps about upping the crime rate and (bummer) getting bloodstains on one's nice clothes. Imagine a land where the Warriors gangs are recast as neon-dripped Lisa Frank animals locked in an Apache Line break-battle to the death. Where Devin the Dude and Twin Shadow growl menacingly, facing the pointy ends of each other's switch blade. Where the tensely rattling guitar line on "Labyrinth" and the Puff Daddy shout-out on the Western Tink-featuring "We Can't Miss," make perfect sense alongside the top-down So Cal funk of "L.A. Nights" (with Murs) and the rolling Castlevania crunk of closer "Cardboard Coffin." Imagine, yes, and listen. But absorb with care. This isn't your reality. This is Isaiah Toothtaker and Prison Garde. This is Sea Punk Funk.

The artwork and title definitely caught my attention initially, but the rhymes kept me listening. Making his GoILL introduction, Chicago's Isaiah Rashad reps The Village, alongside Kembe X and Alex Wiley. Hope to hear more from all those guys soon. A crew that doesn't make noise often, but when they do, it's pretty great.
I imagine Savier's beat tape will drop before the debut Animuse project. I had a chance to speak with the guys the other day and they tell me the tape is finished, so it should only be a matter of time. Expect some of the tracks you've heard already with the addition of some bonus cuts. You can also expect to hear a new single featuring Auggie the 9th before all that.
Promo video for the third establishment of Savier’s (of Animuse) “Dead Weight Beat Tape”. It’s a much darker sensual side of Savier and is inspired by the many late night bedroom encounters. The beat tape will be free and will be dropping mid August.

Chicago band, the O'My's enlist Chance The Rapper to assist on this Blended Babies produced single. This smooth feel good music is featured on the O'My's "Chicago Style" mixtape. The clip was shot recently on a exclusive beach in Chicago by Writer's Wednesday & Andrew Crowe. The visual's directors managed to capture the feel good, laid back vibe of the song PERFECTLY.
This track was produced by G Money Beats and Big Head Productions. It will appear on Calliko's upcoming project "The Terminal 2" presented by The Counter Culture, as well as Giftz upcoming project with Sean Mac & Vic Lloyd (Leaders 1354), "Lake Effect 2: The Re-Rock". Both dropping this summer.

Banks, a participant in our Recent local showcase, has been steady dropping new tracks and videos. He recently released "Gifted" and is working on a new collaboration project with his crew, The InteLLects. "Long Road" is the first offering from Banks' follow-up to "Gifted". No title or release date yet, but be on the lookout for more banksthegenius and The InteLLects this summer.
Be sure to VOTE for banks to be added to the North Coast Festival roster. This is would be a big move for him and we definitely want him to proceed to the next round.
Just this past Wednesday, myself and Brian from Land of Lincoln Ent. put together the first of what I hope to be a successful series of local showcases. We aimed to bring together some Chicago up and comers that would compliment each other and hopefully share some fans. For the first edition we enlisted Banksthegenius who came with his group The InteLLects featuring thekidDIRTY and Jon Lewchenko, TwoLetterz, P-Holla, and Animuse.
Hit the jump for some clips of the evenings performances. I unfortunately don't have and footage of The InteLLects' or P-Holla's performance, but be assured that you missed out if you were not in attendance. Just for the record, what you are about to see is the very first live performance by TwoLetterz and Animuse. Both have been on the Chicago hip-hop scene for very brief periods of time, but they took the stage like pros with lots of energy and enthusiasm. Expect new projects from everyone involved very soon!

A lot of the things portrayed in this new "No Doz" video are not very hood. Then again, some really are! Pulling out the iron to make some grilled cheese, kinda hood! Great taste of what "No Doz" has to offer. We won't have to wait long for the rest either, it's been given an August 14th release.
A love song from a small Pug, an orange Tabby, and Chance The Rapper. In all seriousness though, this song has a great sound and just one more reason why Chance will probably be the next to sign. The kid has radio written all over him. Stream only for now.

The Chicago producer has recently moved to New York and I was at first a little disappointing because we wouldn't see collabs with our home town artists as much. Since his departure, he has gotten right to work with collaborations with some of my favorite NY rappers and producers. Moral of the story, keep doing what you're doing DeShay.

‘Won’t Fuck Us Over’ started out as a cover of The National’s ‘Mr. November.’ We went to Brooklyn and had Annie Hart record the choruses. Her baby son was in the studio, and a couple of his screams made it onto the vocal track — so we modified them into another sound for the song,” SLV STV explains to Rolling Stone. “In Chicago we got into the studio with BBU, and after they recorded their verses we were inspired to change up the structure of the song a bit further.”

Show and Stefan Ponce's first offering from their upcoming collaborative EP. I was just having a conversation about Show You Suck last night, and where I saw him going as an artist. As a fan, I hope he goes, but I kept circling back to the conclusion that he's more of a rapper's rapper, and he doesn't have a lot of tracks that I could see carrying him to mainstream success. Touche good sir, I'll shut the f*ck up now. Look for "Girls Girls Girls" August 3rd.

The Summer of Vita Morte Chapter VI: We continue to see the brand evolve and improve on concepts and designs as the fashion seasons come and go. The immediate goal for Vita Morte is to be the most beloved Chicago based streetwear brand, the brand contiually drops “hometown glory’ type pieces in each collection to represent “the crib”. The crib is just a portion of what Vita Morte represents, it also represents the subculture in which its creators and consumers dwell. It represents the things we see, and the things we live through. It represents who we are, and who we want to be. The design of Vita Morte is meant to be minimal and clean. It’s a simple unbiased portrait of both sides of a spectrum. Vita, the beginning. Morte, the conclusion. Here’s a sneak-peek of most of what Vita-Morte is dropping this week. Locals can expect to see the collection in LEADERS1354 and those admiring from afar can grab joints from online www.vita-morte.com.
